Aright. I know a hand full of dudes that dont do decline and their chest still looks good. Do we really need decline? I havent done it in a long time...but I remember that when i did do it...it didnt change my chest much. Should I throw decline back in??..or am I wasting my time in my chest development? And how many of you guys actually do it. Im curious to see how many people do it.

I rarely do it, i dont like it because the position only allows little movement. I usually do weighted dips.

Decline dumbbell presses. Stretches my chest like no other, and you can squeeze
the shit out of your chest on the way up. Do them every other week about.

I do it, but not very often. I usually do flat, reverse grip and incline(alternating usually do 2 diff types a wk or so) i throw in decline here and there. I think i'll try decline w/dumbbells tho. Haven't done that in yrs.

Dorian Yates said that unless your doing power lifting you should be focusing on decline and incline more.

I never do them never have (except a few time in high school) and chest is one of my best b parts (not genetically but built from the ground up). Flat benches hit the lower pecs hard and so do exercises like dips. Most need a lot more upper pec in relationship to their lower pecs, so I say they are almost completely unnecessary.

Like anything, it all depends on the person. You gotta experiment and see what works.

For me personally, I don't really find any value in them. That's ME! Some people love them. I do agree that most people out there need more upper/middle chest development but of course love to do flat bench cause they think benching 375lbs once means a damn thing unless your a PLer.

To me, most guy's problems in development is a direct result of EGO. I don't give advice, nor talk to people in the gym at all. But a few years back a young guy asked me why his legs wouldn't grow. He said "I'm up to 405lbs for 10 reps". I told him to let me see him squat. Of course, it was one of those gay ass quarter squats.

I of course told him he was doing it all wrong. He called bullshit. I said he couldn't do 10 reps with 135lbs. He bet me his paycheck. I put it on there for him and asked him to squat and not come out of the hole until i told him to. Long story long... 3 reps later 1 plate a side buried his skinny ass and he was nearly in tears.

If guys would leave EGO at the door, and just stuck to the basics. Squats, deads and bench, FOOD and rest... they would be amazed by how much they grew. Guys just think big numbers and single reps mean something when it comes to muscle development (again, not talking PLing here).

That's why the first question outta anyone's mouth when they see a big guy is "How much you bench?"

I don't think the decline press is "pointless", but if you are performing flat presses with good form then I cannot really see the need for a decline movement to further target the lower portion of the chest.
You can perform the decline press if you find the lower portion of your chest is a weakspot/lacking area for you, but for many people the flat press stimulates the lower portion enough.
