How much muscle can one gain in 4 months?

I have a female friend who wants to do figure comps.....she only has 4 months to pack on as much muscle as she can. Her workout is similar to mine.....high volume and 4-5 days a week. She is going to eat the proper calories.

My question....will it be enough to compete in your opinion? Have you seen people pack on alot of muscle in 4 months?

I would post this in the ladies section, but there are really no ladies on this site.

Also, she wants to do this on a lower carb diet.....lots of fats and protein but miminal carbs. How will this affect her?

Way too many factors to consider here...such as:

1. Genetics (the biggest one)
a) is she arleady somewhat in shape?
b) how does she gain naturally?
c) You have consider she needs time to "cut up" as well as build muscle
2. Obviously Training/Diet
3. Supplements/Gear if any

4 Months would be impossible for a BB'ing competition, however I'm not sure what exactly is required for a figure comp. Like I said, if she has great genetics already then I would say it's possible, but if were talking someone who's chubby and hasn't worked out very much in their life then I would say wait for the next comp. :)

She is somewhat in shape....gains at average rates I think, and the comp is in 7 months....I took that into account....3 months cutting I was guessing. Her diet and training I think is good, and no gear.

Do you have any suggestions for supplements that might help her? As for genetics.....I honestly have no idea how to tell.......skinny calves.....I have the same problem....I know her pain.

Thanks for responding anyways. So with the info I gave......just curious, how much muscle can even the suckiest "candidate" gain in 4 months? In your opinion of course.

That's the question nobody ever likes to answer, because of the variables :)

However, I would say 5-10lbs wouldn't be far fetched at all...but I'm not experienced in female training. And though that doesn't sound like much compared to average gains here, 10lbs of muscle on a female is a BIG difference.

FIGURE COMPETITION? OR BODYBUILDING?

DO YOU NEED A BUNCH OF MUSCLE FOR FIGURE COMPS? OR JUST A GOOD PHYSIQUE? A GOOD PHISIQUE DOES NOT NECESSARILY CONSTITUTE A BUNCH OF MUSCLE.

an already trained male could naturally gain about 8 pounds of actual muscle tissue in 4 months. A female will gain something less than that.

I asked a trainer at my gym, and he said a person can gain approx 1 pound a week with a high vol workout. That seems like alot to me.

trainers as a whole ar full of shit . sex/age/natural or steroids/training experience/etc. all factor in .
lets be realistic thats 52 pounds of muscle in a year and thats just not gonna happen for any woman or any man doing less than insane doses lol
i dont know as much as i should about womens cycles and progress but im GUESSING 4-6 pounds of lean mass in 7 months after she cuts after she cuts down for the comp .

god, i wish there was a "norm" or a scale to go on here...

realistically speaking for a female training heavy and eating well, naturally can put on about 1-2lbs of muscle a month.. (genetics plays a huge part, as does training, recovery & diet) with Anabolic Androgenic Steroids (AAS) that will increase...

But that is not actual weight, just actual muscle growth.. weight wise women can put on about 5-7lbs a week which includes water, fat and muscle... which is why you will often hear female competitors gaining up to 30lbs off season..

Her diet of low carbs is NOT going to help with muscle gains.. she needs high protein (1g/1lb of bodyweight) & high complex carbs & moderate fats...

I LOVE DADAWG!!! ;)

answer: probably not that much unless she's a newbie. 1-2 lbs naturaly a month for a woman she'd probably hve to be a newbie as well. Im on gear almost year round and a 10 lb muscle gain is considered GOOD. and im not talking about water gains either, im talking about actual muscle gains, not the other 30 lbs of water the newbs claim they get on cycle. Seriously, how much muscle do you think you can gain in 16 weeks? Maybe some but not much.
