How often should I get sore?

Damn, it makes much more sense now...

I feel like shit right now because I had 6 beers tonight and I kind of ruined my diet for the day; but I'll be back on track for tomorrow.

Thanks for the advice guy's, I'll keep you posted when its time to do legs.

(squats are another thing that intimidate me but I did them last week and have been studying up on perfect form so I think I will be confident enough to get in a few good sets of 5)

Check out box squats. They are great for several reasons, one of which is forcing proper form. You can screw them up, but I feel it is harder to do.

I checked out box squats and they look pretty intense. Not only do I not have access to a bar like that, but I don't have anyone I could trust to be able to spot me and help in case I fucked it up.

But I did my leg day today, staying true to the 5x5 routine and wow, I really feel like I got a great workout. Squats were intimidating but I sucked it up and just went at them. I was barely able pushed out 5x5, but I did it everytime, I feel like I climbed a mountain, it might not sound like much, but it's really an accomplishment for me; I felt like my form was perfect too, no strain on the back whatsoever. (probably because I was scared to death of them).

Tomorrow is bis/tris day and I think my routine may be a little weak so if anyone has any suggestions or tweaks, I'm all ears.

Seated bar Curls
Db Hammer curls (don't know what to call em, hammer motion)
Overhead cable extension? (tris)
Cable rope pulldown? (tris)
Various machine workouts

Also, if you know the names of these workouts, fill me in haha...

Oh, and my lats are still sore :jump:

You got the names right. Thats really similar to my arm routine cept i do preachers with the ez bar too. I also mix in either close grip bench for the tri's or skullcrushers.

I do
Tri's
Skullcrushers or close grip bench
Overhead cable extensions
Rope pulldown

Bi's
Wide Grip BB Curls
Preacher EZ Bar
DB Hammers

Also I would put dips (If you dont) somewhere in your routine. I usually do them on chest days but some do them on arm days for tri's You can adjust your body to really concentrate on chest or tri's

I know its all opinion but i had a pro tell me one time if there is one exercise that absolutely belongs in your upper body routine its weighted dips.

Thanks for the info!

Dips will definitely be added on chest day; I am also adding skull crushers to my routine for tomorrow.

Yo Welter... I stole your arm's routine... I'm diggin the skull crushers, over head extensions were a little tough to get started because I don't weigh that much, each set I took a little off to stay true to the 5x5 as well...

Oh, and whats the best way to do arms? I started out doing all bi's and then switched to doing all tris. Is this best or should I mix them up throughout my workout?

I like to switch between bi's and tri's every set. Gives the muscles a couple minutes between sets. I also mix up my sets every six weeks. I do 5x5 for 6 weeks then 3x10 not sure which I really like better, I think I see more progress when doing 5x5 but for some reason I normally am more sore during my 3x10 sets.

Oh, and the soreness from leg day is catching up with me... My legs have never been so sore in all my life; thighs, calves, glutes, everything... My glutes are so sore it hurts when I sit, 5x5 rocks!

Just got back from doing the dreaded dead lifts...

I felt like my form was slightly sloppy but I got through it with no injury; I felt like I didn't keep my back arched every time, but when I did them right, I really could tell, I can see it is only going to take practice...

Also, I noticed I was sweating like crazy after them; like, more than any other workout...

haha dreaded deadlifts!! i like i like. i used to be the same way. Now that is my favorite day to hit the gym. all your stats will go up now that you are deading.
