How to change to insurance coverage?

So I have been paying out of pocket through a specialty doctor for services and meds for my TRT because I found it difficult to get my family doc at the time to have any interest in looking into TRT. Now that I have been on TRT for 9 months how does one get a family doc or a general doc to prescribe so I am able to use my insurance? Will being currently on TRT be enough or are they going to require a blood test which will just show normal levels because I'm on TRT which wont show low levels etc.

I'm very happy with my current doctor but would like to reduce the cost of going to a specialty doc.

Of course you want to reduce cost. That is just common sense.

Since you like your family doctor and want to keep him, you could try being honest and tell him you are on TRT. He might be annoyed that you went to someone else, but he might also be willing to take over your treatment. That would be the best solution. And doctors all have many patients who do things they don't approve of (like smoking, not exercising, being too fat, drinking too much, etc.)

He may not want to direct your TRT program because he may not feel that he has sufficient knowledge of TRT. If so, he might refer you to another doctor.
