how to weigh powder

I have a jennings scale the .01 model and I need to weigh small amounts in mg.

Do you dump the powder on the scale itself or do I need to get something special to put the powder in to weigh?

I put down some seran wrap
Tare the scale so it reads "0"
then measure my powder.


If you dump it directly on the scale, you will lose some of the powder

Any type of weighing boat, piece of paper, etc. Do not directly weigh on the scale...for common sense's sake.

For the record, I really dislike the auto-off "feature" on many scales.

I would use a small measuring cup and put it on the scale before you turn it on it should zero out.... yea the auto off switch sucks mrr

I use little plastic cups.

I've got lots of beakers that would work except they weight so damn much and they easily put the scale over its max.

If your scale won't weigh high enough amounts, skip the cup and go with a ziplok bag. Cut the bottom of it so the zipper part doesn't get involved with the weight.
