Intro and a few questions

Order panels at privatemd. They are cheaper. Many of us get either the Hormone Panel for Females or the Hormone Panel for Males. Despite names, both are for males. Just depends on what you want to see for which one you should order. Since you want TSH, I would recommend the Hormone Panel for Males.

Damn...too late. I forgot to look at their panels. I ordered...

Thyroid TSH w/ Free T4 & Free T3
Estradiol, Sensitive
Testosterone, Free (Direct) With Total Testosterone, LC/MS-MS

Oh well, a few bucks lost.

Since you appear to be Secondary, an HPTA Restart is an option (likely using Clomid). If that doesn't work then TRT would be the likely course of action.

I was just reading about that. On another forum I read some comments that they have never heard of the restart working except in the case of thyroid shutdown from steroid use but especially not in older guys like me. I don't know if that's true but from what I've read about the Clomid restart so far, I think I'd rather go straight to TRT. I'll have to read about it more though.

Call and cancel it I think you can get all those and more in the Hormone Panel for Males for about $140.

Have you read the Sticky Threads yet? They cover a lot of this.

Why not try to get your Natty T back if possible? If it doesn't work then you can go on injections the rest of your life. The risks of trying the restart are low but the upside is huge if it works.

What is your height, weight and body fat %?

6'
205lbs
22% according to the scale I have but idk how accurate it is.

I've read it, I just forgot about the panels...I have low T lol.

They already sent me the req so I'll just stick with what I ordered. Everything else on the panel will get tested next month when I see the PCP.

I really think it would be easy for Pvtmdlabs to fix it for you with a simple phone call. They have great customer service. I know you have low T, but you won't have to assert yourself too much with them. They really do a great job. They have bent over backwards to help me with the occasional problem. They want you to be happy and use their service again.

After reading about it more I think I'll bring it up with the Doc. Is there an article or thread on here that clearly describes the restart procedure?

I found this article which makes sense
shiramillermd.com/bioidentical-hormones-doctor.html

but I think she's talking about a permanent treatment. I seem to be extra "foggy" today so I'll have to read it again tomorrow.

Hey Megatron, thanks for all your help!

I went back and read the TRT overview and one of the links took me to the artofmanliness blog where the guy doubled his T through diet/exercise. So I've decided to get serious about diet, exercise, and getting proper sleep and give it a few months before deciding on any therapy. I don't expect any drastic change in my T between now and my next appt on the 17th but hopefully some slight improvement to keep me motivated.

Why not do this in combination with Clomid to get your HPTA working again? Trying to build muscle and lose fat -- let alone have energy for training -- is hard while one is hypogonadal.

I'm going to talk to my urologist about that. I'll see what he has to say or if he has experience/knowledge with restarts. If not I'll talk to my new PCP the following week.

Yeah it's been a grind to hit the gym the past 2 mornings but I'm going to stick to it. Last 2 nights I've helped myself to my wife's clonazepam, .5 mg along with melatonin has had me asleep by 10:30 pm. I hope it keeps working, falling asleep has been my problem for years.

I use melatonin to help me fall asleep. Helps me "turn my brain off" and get to sleep. Try 1mg about 1-2 hours before you want to be asleep. Play with the timing and see what works best for you. If you aren't in a position to take it in advance, I find that 5mg helps me get to sleep in about 20 minutes. And I prefer the kind that melts under your tongue.

And it will be a grind to go to the gym with Hypogonadism. It is kind of like a kid lifting weights before be has hit puberty. He can lift all he wants but it just isn't going to result in adding much muscle. Just something to think about.

So I just got the results of the labs from the morning after I had the LH/FSH labs drawn. Now I'm confused...

So I guess my next step is to get my thyroid checked out. My wife thinks my urologist will kick that over to the pcp I'm seeing on the 27th. Until then I'm pressing on with diet, exercise, & proper sleep. Starting to feel better, not great, but better. Hopefully lifestyle changes will get things back to normal. My thyroid doesn't feel enlarged or painful so we'll see what happens.

I have never seen TT go from 268 to 745. What did you do/change?

Thyroid needs to be looked at. Hypothyroidism can affect SHBG and TT for the worse.

I didn't change anything between the doc's labs and the latest labs. The morning after I had the latest labs drawn I went to the gym and started the diet. So I'm clueless as to what is going on. When I called my wife and told her the results she said "You've got to be kidding".

Well I had been on cypro for 2 weeks for the prostatitis before the last labs but that's the only change.

The other thing I did was cut way back on caffeine as the Doc told me. I was drinking two 20oz starbucks coffees a day (sometimes more). According to various websites that was 830 mg per day. I think at the time of the labs I had cut back to one at the most so 415 mg. Now I'm down to 2-3 cups of instant decaf which should be about 20-30 mg/day.

I've looked up caffeine and T, thyroid, hormones etc. and there seems to be mixed evidence (good/bad) but it seems it has some affect on the HPTA pathway. Maybe too much caffeine was screwing over more than my prostate or maybe I have a tumor...I guess I'll find out.
