Joe Weider, I call Bullsh*t.....

Ok, I just got around to reading the new issue of Muscle&Fiction, (I know, I know, it's all bs, but I've got a subscription that doesn't end for 2 more years)
Anyway, there is an article in there called "187 Years of Training Wisdom." This is about the techniques of 6 bodybuilders from different generations. I call bullshit on this:

Chris Cook's section states (and I quote): "Growing 3.75 inches in 18 months is nothing; if you're a 13 year old boy. But what if you're 27 and have been training for a while? "I was frustrated with the curse of having small arms, so I began training them twice a week," says 2003 USA Superheavyweight champ Chris Cook. "Friday is the heavier day. I do 4 exercises, 4 sets of each, with 10-15 reps for both biceps and triceps, pushing myself to failure on the last set of each exercise. This is where I try to hurt the muscle by breaking down the tissue, and the day is dedicated to just arms. The following monday is a volumizing day, a workout designed to drive blood and nutrients into the muscle while stretching the muscle fasciae to facilitate growth. After I train my scheduled bodypart, I'll pick 2 exercises each for bi's and tri's, completing 4 sets of 15-25 reps of each for each exercise. Three years ago, my arms measured 17 inches; now they're 20 3/4, so there is validation to my madness."

Ok, now that might be a sound training regimen that he described there, but NO ONE grows 3.75 inches in 18 months at the age of 27. NO ONE. The article somehow fails to mention the amps, vials, and needles needed for growth even resembling that. Diet and Training, MY ASS.

Joe Weider and Chris Cook, I CALL BULLSHIT.

Depends, what he may not be telling you is that he was dieted down for a show in the beginning, and in full bulking mode at the end, not to mention if he gained alot of weight in that 18 months it definately is possible.

Nah, judging by the pics, he's a full 20" now, somewhere around contest condition, IMO.
If he was in contest shape both times he measured that is pure bullshit.

oh, well I say. I think flex magazine finally started to admit it his articles about gear use in bodybuilding before they used to denie it from what I remember.

Well, at least some of his publications are starting to get their heads out of their asses, maybe.

Steroids? Shit, among other things...more like he is shooting GH and Insulin too to get that kind of growth. Not that I care, but they shouldn't mislead people with bullshit workouts that are only going to result in overtraining if the real reason is drugs.

And why the fuck is FLEX sucking this guy's dick? He did not even get his procard at that contest yet he deserves a whole article? Not only did he not get his procard, but he place 3rd overall at the show. There are tons of other non-pros that don't get any spotlight. They never have real articles with pros, it is always some stupid photo shoot of a few pros lifting together wearing sunglasses instead.

i definitely call BS too... no one can make those kind of gains in that kind of time.

You read the article? It is pure, unadulterated, 100% Bullshit. There is no way he could have gained half of that size on that workout, much less the 3 3/4"

No doubt, there is a lot of BS in those magazines, but they do have some useful information. The nutrition articles are usually sound. You just have to watch out for all of the supplement company motivated lies.

thats my biggest peve with the mags ---if the normal person tried any of the workouts in theses mags they would overtrain and drop from the game alltogether-

the mags need to focus on real world workouts for the average person-

would that be Mike metzers workout then, HIT?

I wouldn't say that it's entirely Bullshit. I've only been working out seriously for six months now and I've put 2.5 inches on each arm. To be fair however, I just finished fighting with cancer and I was pretty small. I imagine I'll be up to around three inches growth by the end of the year.

Dude, congratulations on beating cancer. BUT yours is an entirely different situation. You have a good excuse for gaining that type of size, well, 2 actually: 1) Recovering from cancer, 2) Beginner. This homo had been training for like 12 years.

There is a huge difference in gaining size between a new lifter and a person that has been lifiting for a long time and suddenly adds 2" to his arms

Most articles in FLEX etc are bullshit. After my chest workout for example I am sore for damn near a week. There is no way I could work chest 2 times a week like they suggest in the mags without something to aid in recovery. Coleman's workouts are only possible with tons of juice, there is no way an average guy could recover fast enough to warrant another workout 2 days later for the same muscles.

Exactly. I did those types of workouts (each BP 2-3x/week) for the 4 years. My body adapted so that I wasn't so sore for so long, but I was definitely overtraining. I've had better gains in the last 5 weeks after I cut back to each BP 1x/week than I'd had in the last year before that.

I even wrote to Coleman via his FLEX column and asked him how he can train with that much volume and still recover, he did not respond.

You need to understand 3 years ago chris competed at a weight of 210 lb. He know is competing at 242. Thats a 32 lb difference. Most guys his height can assume about 1" every 10 lb of muscle. Well thats 3"

Now is he taking things. Probably but then again 95% of the people on this board are.

Is it wrong for Joe to write about these things. No its his business. They people he puts in his magazines are the people we strive to look like. What motivation is it to put some skinny fuck in the mag.

Why does he not mention steroid use?? Because again its a buiness, and he wants the average Joe off the street to pick up his mag and think he to can look like that. If he was to mention "Hey chris cook put on 3" on his arms in 18 months and so can you with 1,000 mg of test." Most people would put the magazine down and walk away.

Come on guys don't get mad at him for wanting to make a profit. Every business lie's to its consumer in some way. Thats how you get ahead. Sorry to say that but its true.
