When I first started working out I wasnt reading these forums or any others for that matter but had some people at the gym show me some exercises and started on my way to gain some muscle. I weighed about 135 and 5'7". I was working everything out 3 times a week for a month. Upper body on monday, wednesday and fridays and Legs on tuesday thursday and saturday and every time I went in was adding more weight for each exercise 5 lbs every day. For example my bench started at 95 and now is at 180. I have been reading its bad to overtrain does anyone think I could be overtraining? I am not on anything except using GNC whey protein if that counts and eating my usual meals.

If you were overtraining you'd know it. So many people think that training each bodypart 5 times a week is overtraining. It is not. It only leads to overtraining. Days when you can't even get enough strength to load up the bar or days where you just aren't yourself in the weight room, those are signs of overtraining.

Exactly. Once the gains stop coming, don't convince yourself to keep going, but change up the routine to keep progressing and/or take time off if need be to get back where you need to be and prevent overtraining.

3x/week total body workout isn't bad at all for a beginner, IMO. That's what I did for the first 5 years or so that I lifted (football offseason, I had no choice). I was overtrained as hell after about a year of it, just like everybody else, but I had no choice in changing routines. You do. So when you reach that point, cut back and/or change routines.
