Keto diet

does anyone know the approximate macro breakdown when on a keto diet???

i'm shooting for like 60% protein, 5% carbs, 35% fat

like WOF said, fat needs to be MUCH higher than 35%. at LEAST 50%

ive never delved into keto diets. i like carbs too much. dont really have any input here.

as do I, unfortunately the way I'm built, if I don't cut HARD I don't cut for shit

I'm also running a nice dose of gear right now that is allowing me to retain muscle mass and strength, so I can get a little more crazy with the dieting

how would one keep there protein intake high enough taking in 60+% fat??

I'm shooting for 3000 calories and at least 400 grams of protein (which consumes over 50% of my calories for the day right there)

If you are doing a Keto diet I suggest you lower your protein intake. Do 1g per pound of lean body mass. You want to keep your fat calories a lot higher. 65% fat is pretty much standard. If not that, people will do 60%. If you do not go this high then I suggest not doing a Keto diet because it won't work.

Keto-diets are supposed to be high fat, moderate protein, and low carb. Having protein that high will take you out of ketosis, or the diet just wouldn't work. Keto-diets are based on high fat cals, not high protein cals.

There are keto-diets for bulking as well, so if that is what you are doing, you should look that up. But if you are doing it to cut, then lower your protein intake as I said before. :)

If you are worried about burning muscle because you have to lower your protein intake, well...don't be. The point of a keto-diet is to burn the FAT for fuel, not glycogen or muscle. I am sure you know this though. So if you are doing the diet correctly, you will keep your muscle and burn fat.

the only reason I ask is because I'm 240lbs ~12%bf and I would really like to drop down to about 9%, I have a ways to go, but what I'm doing now seems to be working... I would like to keep my protein up around 350 grams at least, so maybe i'll hit up a 50/50... do you think I can get away with that?

You might just be better off running a basic low carb plan rather then a true "keto" diet. or maybe carb cycling. Keto's can be rough for athletes or extremely active people..IMO I've done the keto plan a few times and although it works, I felt extremely weak, fatiqued, and would sometimes gas-out during a frigin warm up..lol. I'd run on pure adrenaline until I couldn't take it anymore. I understand that it has it's place in contest prep or the extremely obese, but our bodies were meant to run on carbs.

I'm running a low carb diet, ultra low - around 20 grams of carbs a day, right now and have run them in the past with great results and to tell the truth the only thing I paid attention too was total carbs, protein and fat were of no concern too me as long as it had no carbs. Works like a charm for me....although eating nothing but protein and fat does get old by week three. As for the loss of energy, I experiance a mild case of this but after a while the body adjusts.

Definetly need to take vitamin supps while running this diet so make sure you are.

yeah, thats kinda what I'm shooting for... my carbs stay in between 25 and 50 grams a day

Keep it at that level for 14-16 days and then bump it up to 60 a day and you'll still drop weight. once every two to three weeks you can have a cheat meal to keep the body guessing and keep you from stalling in weight loss.

Experiment cuz excessive protein will turn into carbs..

I would advise using keto strips to make sure your not thrown out of ketosis.

I think at this point, no matter what I do diet wise, I'm going to lose weight

As long as I keep my protein take adequate and my calories lower than maintenance I should be able to make some significant decrease in bf and overall weight lose

50/50 is a bad idea google "The Ketogenic Diet" by Lyle McDonald (Spelling of Name unsure)Read it lots of options Ie/CKD and TKD but 50/50 or higher protein then fat is a reciped for problems. It is really hard on you and with such a high ratio you will start to use protein for energy and this F's up ketosis and will stall you.
