I’ve been lurking on these forums for a while now and have found the information to be invaluable, but I could really use some personalized advice from your guys’ wealth of knowledge.
Through a mix of doctors and self diagnosis, I’ve discovered I likely have primary hypogonadism due to mosaic klinefelters.
A little of my life history: I was a very overweight between the ages of 13-17. Probably around 5’7” 215 lbs with a bf% in the mid 30s (had gyno since I was about 13 as well). My senior year is when I believe I went through puberty. I began growing facial hair, I went on Atkins and I lost 50 lbs. After that year I began lifting about 5 days a week and put on quite a bit of muscle, but I’ve never been able to lift much weight (the most I’ve ever been able to bench is 200 lbs, which was after months of dedicated training/dieting ). For the next few years my weight would fluctuate pretty drastically (from 180-230), and for me to keep weight off I had to eat around 1600 calories a day and close to zero carbs. The quality of my diet and exercise has been sporadic, 6 months out of an average year both are great, and the other 6 months I don’t really watch what I eat or exercise. It’s been like that for the last five years.
For the last few years I’ve noticed the symptoms common with low testosterone: fatigue, lack of sex drive, no energy, foggy mind, weight fluctuations, etc. I didn’t really know what was wrong with me so my doctor tested my thyroid and it checked out fine, and so he told me it could be something mental. I got married soon thereafter and hadn’t had sex before, and soon discovered that I couldn’t perform. I could go once a day, and my dick was pretty soft. I’d joke with my wife to just tuck it in there, and I’d thrust. I met my wife in January of 09 and I weighed 190 and was in the best shape of my life, and by the end of our honeymoon in August 09 (quick I know) I was 217; that probably exasperated my condition. I tried to lose the weight but had a very hard time even with the very strict diet and exercise I had used to lose the weight before.
In April 2010 I had had enough, and after doing some research I had a good idea of what my problem was. My doctor checked my total serum and free test as well as my prolactin. My serum T was 588 but my free was close to zero. I had slightly elevated prolactin. From April until this past October I was bounced from my general doctor to an urologist to two different endocrinologists, having to wait months between each visit. I was finally put on 5g of Androgel, which didn’t work, and tried 10g which seemed to help with erections but little else. I had an MRI done of my brain which came back fine and have had four or five bloodtests. My average total T on the subsequent tests was about 300, free is always well below normal, my prolactin has been normal along with everything else (FSH, LH, E2, SGBH). I had a semen analysis done and it came back showing that I’m sterile.
My doctor wanted me to get a chromosome analysis, which would cost me somewhere between 600-800 dollars, which I can’t afford, to confirm the klinefelters. At this point, I just wanted something to treat my symptoms, but my doctor told me she wouldn’t prescribe me injectables. I’m 23 and both my wife and I are students. We live in the most conservative area of the country, which doesn’t help in getting properly treated. We’re on a very strict budget and I have insurance through my college that doesn’t cover anything related to hormones or infertility. To this point, I’d covered most of this care through student loans.
I could no longer afford to go to a new doctor who would make me pay to run new blood tests, so I had an uncle hook me up with his international line of Test Cyp. I took 200mg once per week starting the second week of this past November. I noticed improvement in sexual function (still no morning wood) but not much else. Thinking I may have got an underdosed or even fake product, I tried doubling my intake this past week. As of right now, my dick is not functioning and I have pretty sore nipples. I currently weigh 250 lbs with probably a little over 30%bf, pretty damn chubby. With this kind of fat on my body, it seems I probably should been taking an Aromatase inhibitor (AI) and started at a lower dose of test.
I’m not really sure what to do next. What should I take, how much? Do I need to try to lose weight first? I would appreciate any advice you guys can offer on the subject or anything else you’d recommend me do as far as my treatment, with my budgetary concerns in mind. I apologize this is so lengthy and hope I’m not breaking any rules or committing noobie mistakes. I may upload pictures of some of my major physical changes later. Thanks.
