Low Carb Diet

Been on a low carb diet for a week. Low carbs being around 250 carbs a day.

Stats 6'2 250lbs 16%BF
Current Cycle Tren/Prop 100mg each EOD

Cardio after workouts 30 mins and on off days 1 hour

Here is the thing, I have one of those body fat scales and it says I have lost 5 lbs the first week but have gained 3% in Body fat. I am just wondering if my scale is screwed or if I am doing something wrong. I measure each day when I wake up. I take in about 350g of protein a day. No carbs at all at night and I have not started Clen yet.

I assume the scale works by bioelectrical impedence. If you have dropped your carbs significantly from where you were before you started, then you are probably holding less water. This will result in a higher bodyfat reading using bioelectrical impedence. This is because the scale takes its reading based on how resistant to an electrical impluse you are. Fat is resistant to the pulse, where as water assists in electrical conduction. So, less water in the body means greater resistance to the impulse.

In other news... 250g of carbs is "low carb"? :)

250 gr carbs is not low carb. If you want to loose fat you should be taking about 125 g carbs / 420 gr prot / 130 gr fat (about 3300 kcal) at your weight and height.
Cardio is best at morning with an empty stomach, if you can't do this, after weights is second choice.

Yeah, 250 carbs a day is definitely not low carb.

Anyway, your scale would probably say you are fatter if your water levels are different. Those scales are pretty much useless, like everyone else said. Even some cheapo Accu-Measure calipers would be more accurate than that.

Good luck.

I am clueless when it comes to these things but I did the Atkins death diet and lost a lot of muscle. I was intaking around 20g Carbs a day, is this the reason or was there not enough protien in my diet? Was a "solid" 6'1 250 now im a floppy sloppy 6'1 215...

Is 20g of carbs enough to mantain/gain muscle mass?

How much protein did you get? Even with a great diet, you are going to lose at least some muscle, unless you use drugs while cutting down. You'll want at least 1.5 grams per pound when low-carbing, if not more.

If you do a straight Atkins diet where you are encouraged to eat crap like cream cheese, pork rinds, etc than you can expect to look sloppy at the end. You probally did lose alot of fat but alot of muscle with it. Just goes with the territory because it is a diet to designed to shed weight at any cost (your muscle).

Most Atkins dieters logs show that they do not consume enough protein to maintain their current muscle. That is why bodybuilders turn to low carb diets like the CKD to ensure that they are getting the right amount of macronutrients to maintain as much muscle as possible.

I am currently on a high protein low carb diet. When I started in Feb of 05 I was 280lbs. Currently am 240. I usually do moderate intesity cardio and also am still lifting. I have noticed increase in muscle mass but this also could be the fact that I shed 40lbs already and am starting to see muscles.
