Menstrual Cramps: What do you do?

Hello, my girlfriend has been having the worst cramps in her legs lately. They are so bad they she has to stop walking sometimes to lay down, and it interrupts her cardio numerous times. She is not on any anabolics, just birth control to regulate her menstural cycle. She is 21 years old and this has always been happening. Just wondering what drugs or supplements, herbal or prescribed, you women take to help with this.

I heard Valerian root helps somewhat. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but I wanted to ask for expert women advice. Thank you for any help!

She has done Ibuprofen before but her stomach becomes really upset because of it, and she builds a sort of "immunity" to Midol so that its not effective anymore. Any other suggestions? Thank you!

Maybe excedrin?? W/the IBu. does she take it w/food?? She needs to go to the doc. Women are put on b.c because of these symptoms. If she's already on b.c. maybe they can switch it to something else.

Yes she is on the b.c. loestrin I think. She take the Ibu. with food, I guess she's just an unusual case. Her family has a history of these kind of menstrual problems though. I was just hoping there was something I could do to help her. Lately she's been having these mood swings too, from crying to laughing in 5 seconds. Then she'll get angry, then depressed, and she says she feels nervous all the time. She tried to go to the doc but they tried to put her on anti-depressants which she refuses to take. Oh well. I'll tell her to try the Ibu again with some potassium and water. Thanks everyone for the help, and if anyone has any other suggestions please let me know. Thanks!
