Modified Deadlifts

Don't mean to sound like an ass. but I have seen women using two dumbells to do deadlifts if thats what you mean...

If you meant two dumbells, no. For one the dumbells wont be in front of you, and another its not going to be easy to get 300 pounds on each of those dumbells.

If you meant a STANDARD barbell on the other hand, how are you going to use two at a time?

If you insist on lifting at home, you can get an Olympic set for $99 at your local athletic place.

I usually doworkouts at agym my work provides but they dont even have a standard bench and bar only dumb bells so I wanted to get away with using those until i get some money. I guess the weight at your side is different than the front.

Yeah you would end up doin a lunge probably. hey look if your young and dont have much money try this :
A friend of mine when was young and broke and went to the local ymca. He told them his situation and they worked out a payment plan. He paid like $15 a month for 2 years then he paid more. It worked for both of them....will that help ?

dumbbells are better than nothing. esp if you got up to 150s or higher. just keep um in front of you. great for stiff legs also. even if you cant keep um in front of you use them like a trap bar dead. hits quads well and posterior.

Thanks guys...i have been doing my workouts up front with the dumb bells but they dont even have ones big enough for me now. I think it's time to hit a real gym!

I don't believe they transfer well to conventional barbell Deads, but they are one of a number of effective Deadlift variations when it comes to hypertrophy and real-world strength. I think it's risky to the spine to try to keep the dumbells in front of you from the floor to erect like you would a barbell though.

why? i dont see the difference. weight in front of you on both. please explain unless you just speculating or thinking out loud.

It may just be due the particulars of my levers, but I am not able to maintain a straight back going anywhere near the floor from a conventional stance with the dumbells in front of me. I have to hunch over. I don't have a problem maintaining a straight back with any other variation. I haven't tried dumbells from a Sumo stance though.

just have to go deeper with you stance. like a deep squat to get up under the weight as you would with a bar. no difference cept in depth of starting position. like doing deads off a box. longer pull.
