Myth or Fact?

I hope this doesn't detract from my other thread but there is a myth about bodybuilding that I've been told for a few years.

Myth:
I've been told that if you start bodybuilding when you are young(lets say you start becoming interested in working out at 12 years old...like me) then you body focuses its hormones on building muscle mass rather than your height.

This is the reason I have worked out maybe for two months in a row, then quit, then worked out for two months in a row, then quit....off and on the past 4 years...since I was 12. I was scared that if I worked out continuously for a long time then that would happen. I am also scared it did happen. I'm 16 and only 5'4". I'm practically a midget...not to dog on midgets.

Would you guys know whether that is a myth or a fact?

I was 5'6" when I was 16 and ended up at 5'11". That's not huge by any means, but it does mean you still have some time to grow. And, if you are gonna be short, better to be built and short than scrawny and short don't you think?

I dunno...
ABOOT started at 12 and he is only 5' 2".........

First off, you are old and have homo-gay tendencies. Secondly, I started late in life at 15 and am now a towering 5'8". Thank you very much.

Eagles: How tall are other male members of your family? Maybe you're just a late bloomer.

Height is primarily determined by genetics, you can usually count on it that you will be taller than your mother. I used to be bothered by my height, most of my friends are tall. I've made up for my lack of height by trying to be as big as I can get for my height. My fiancee is taller than me but she likes short muscular guys and I like tall skinny girls so it all works out perfectly.

besides....shorter guys tend to gain muscle quikley. where as tall guys take forever to gain muscle because of our bodytypes. so, count your blessings.

damn i wish i was shorter!..lol :startrek:

5'7 or 5'8 is ok if you're thick. I'm 5'8 158 lbs and I don't feel small now. I did when I was 129 lbs... If you're 200 lbs at that height you're a monster... My goal is to get to 165 lbs by the end of the year bulking natural. I'll keep my BF low because it's my genetics (at least I've got good luck with that).
And yes, shorter guys get muscular quickly.

I'm 6'2" and am taller than my father, and started lifting at 11 years of age. I almost got a weight set before that, but they were all jacked up (cement) and I had to wait.

There is no real difference, other than the fact that 20 pounds on them is 30-35 on a tall guy. A short guy might look jacked at 200, a taller guy, 280.

Yep, 6 months on a dedicatd and possibly gifted short guy, and he will look good. We had at least one such guy on this site, always lean too.

In the offseason his arms are 19" or so, so no, he is not small. Ingram is the guy I was thinking of.
