quaker whole oats are a greaat way to start any workout, complex carb. good glycemic index and will fuel you through your entire workout. I have people who become hypoglycemic when I train them and this always takes care of the problem...
I always carb up before my workouts. When I do this, I feel a lot stronger and have a lot more energy. If I don't then I'm draggin in the gym. I usually eat a bunch of oatmeal or brown rice or some baked pots or some other high carb food.
