Protein Intake

Supercharged

Mr. Homewrecker
I was told that I would need to take in 2 grams of protein per every pound of body weight, per day if I wanted to keep gaining weight.

Is this pretty accurate?

:dunno:

Nah, you don't NEED that much. 1g/lb should work, but if your gains start to stall you can increase it and see if that helps. Some people have busted through plateaus with 2g/lb, but it's a waste to eat that much if you don't need it (since most people use protein powders, and that costs them money).

Now there is the most helpful answer to ever grace the pages of the board.......
What do you expect he has William Hung for an avatar pic. Anyway getting 2 grams per pound of body weight can be very hard. Especially when you weigh 250 lbs.

It can be hard regardless of how much you weigh. Plus it's a pain in the ass when the regular world eats about 3 meals a day with about 20-30 grams/protein per meal.

But if I were wanting to gain weight, I'd shoot for more rather than trying to be reasonable. 2grams/lb sounds about right to me.

Arnold and Ronnie didn't get to where they are by being reasonable.

Your attention should be on calories, not protein. Increasing the calories by eating more protein would be good to do.

Increase calories by increasing, carbs, protein, and fats!

This might work for some people, but for me, I needed to focus on protein and then see if I needed to add calories.

It's very difficult to get 2 grams of protein per lb just by upping calories, imo. Just check out a basic meal that other people think is normal, you'll probably have a ton of carbs and little protein. How about some chicken, mashed potatoes and rice and beans and a coke or juice. 20 grams of protein, eleventy billion grams of carbs, and a bit of fat.

Double that meal and you still don't get enough protein, imo.

Couldn't agree more. I slam 100g's or so of protein and then fill up the rest on veggies and/or carbs. An example would be three or four chicken breasts and a pile of green beans and corn. Or a 16oz steak and a couple cups of brown rice. Protein/fat meals go the same route. The idea being that I make sure I get the protein portion of the meal down, then pack in whatever else I can fit. Want cookies or ice-cream, slam 100g's of protein first! (not recommended but you get the idea :D )

To answer the original question, 2g's per pound sounds real good.
