i dont usually have alot of time through the day to eat. so i have about 4 protein shakes a day and the rest are meals. is it ok to have this many instead of eatting "real food''
it absorbs it but too fast and there is no substitute for real food. It is a "supplement" in the true sense of the word. It supplements your eating and it is not meant to replace it.
Not enough time to eat? I don't believe it. Set your priorities, premake meals that are easy to simply re-heat etc. A protein shake is a supplement to real food, not a substitute for it. If your life is that hectic it is time to get some control and quit making excuses.
Its kinda gross but I take 4 shakes a day with 2 scoops protein and I toss in a few servings of instant mash potatoes. You cant really taste it over the powder and its alot of solid carbs. Thats my base I try to eat 4-5x solid lil meals other than the shakes.
Sunday night you throw a nice big flank steak on the grill. While that's grilling you have a pot of brown rice going and maybe some veggies in a skillet on low. When the steak is done you throw it on te counter and start slicing every piece of it. Take 6 or 8 tupperware (sandwich size) containers and put a fistful of each into them. now you have 8 meals to start your week. take them to work and throw them in the fridge. No fridge? Pack a cooler and leave it in your car. Continue the shakes only as a supplement 2x a day.
