yo! so do you guys bring it down to your upper chest or just stop at your chin then press???

some say when bringing it down to your upper chest, it works more the tri while as to bringing just to your chin works mainly the shoulders.

opinions?? thanks

I drop my ellbows until the are parallel wich puts the bar about even or just below my nose. Wiht exteremly heavy lifts it's generally for one or two reps so the bar will come all the way back down to my shoulders before the next rep.

I like to lift moderate heavy and not letting the elbows drop below parallel to keep the muscles engaged throughout the exercise.....burns them out pretty quick.

Im going out right now, and will comment later but that just made my head spine right round like on the Excorcist.

mate,

using a full ROM is always going to elicit more hypertrophy, so as long as you have the shoulder flexibility (i.e. are uninjured) id always go to upper chest.

As for triceps being more active in one way over another, thats kinda crazy, the triceps will be most heavily recruited in the last 3rd of the movement. Theres relatively little recruitment of the triceps when the bars coming off the chest, or even at chin level really.

If you think about it, if you use a full ROM, then theres no way using a partial ROM rep can hit any muscle used in a full ROM rep to any greater extent.
