Quit smoking...need to expand lungs...

The Pitbull is within...
I just quit smoking today cold turkey. I had only been smoking since Jan 05 but it was affecting my lifts and cardio as of recently so I had to for myself.

Anyhow, I am "belly" breathing and fully exhaling as a way to expand my lung capacity. Are there any other techniques that I can use to both expand lung capacity as well as possibly expand the rib cage a bit (I thought I read something on this)
Please advise
Nick

good for you dude for quitting! and yes, I understand your situation. was a smoker/lifter back then. also quitted just this year. 2 years though.
recover from your smoking for now and eat big dude.
after that, hit the gym again.
you could jog for miles...that oughta help strengthen your lungs again.
squats dude..deep ass squats could help either.
deep breathing pullovers
it's really genetics about the rib cage thingie.

good for you
i smoked for 10 years..stopped cold turkey as well..now looking back i realize how pointless it was

congrats, I quit a couple weeks ago too. It really is such a waste of...everything. I have so much more energy when working out now.

Good 4 u bro. I used to smoke for about 5 yrs and quit cold turky. All i know is u'll notice a diff. as your body gets the shit out of your system. Yeah, smoke after workout and after sex are both good, but really do nothing 4 u. Still miss the :druggie: though, but that and cigs really kill ya.
Good luck at staying clean.

so tell me,

im no body builder but i work out. is it the norm to smoke green after a work out to boost your apetite?

Well done for quittin, i hope to sumday

Cartilage isn't going to budge when fused. Aerobic work can increase your oxygen uptake efficiency.

blckburn....don't think its the norm 2 have green after a workout to boost appetite, however would have that effect. I did that while i lifted 4 2 full yrs(not because it increased your appetite either, just cuz i enjoyed it), then decided there was more harm in it then good. At least when its excessive. I'm not against it, I just choose not 2 use it anymore. I can usually eat a fair amout w/o the green, w/it however, i'm a not stop eating machine. :) But, after deciding to get serious w/lifting, kicked the habbit. All in what u wanna accomplish and how many sacrifices u're willing to make. But ya gotta live a lil 2.

Thanks for the support. Well I cannot eat TOO much, since I am in the midst of cutting.
The deep breathing with the belly exercise seems to help. It pushes diaphram down and increases capacity over time. This is according to an endurance cycling site.
I will have to do the pullovers since I have been reading alot about those.
I am definite on the cardio and deep breathe when doing so.
How long to completely "repair" or improve until the same or better than originally?
