range of motion question

at the gym that i am at... i see guys use a lot shorter range of motion..for instance i have seen a few guys when they are benching they only lift the bar 6 inches above their chest...does that work the muscle better or is it a waste of time...thanks

Waste of time. Thats like the pussies who load up 315 on the squat rack and do what they call a "squat" but really they go down about 3 inches, and they're legs are not even at a 45 degree angle, more like 60. You need a full range of motion to completely work the muscle. Now some people do partials but I'm not getting into that on this post.

I agree with vennom. When squating, I always go ass to grass. Every excercise is better when in complete range (a few specific exercises are done in partial range).
Many guys do shorter range because they load more weight than they can move to the bar.

I think it depends on whether you are injured or not. If you have bad shoulders then you should not touch the bar to your chest and if you have bad knees, depending on the diagnosis, I would be careful of deep squats.

Yeah, I've seen a ton of people lift the bar up for bench and literally go half way down and push up and say it's a rep. I keep telling them to touch their chest, but they say it works completely on your chest and not triceps.

yeah thats what i heard

I still touch my chest because that's just the way I was taught, but I also think you work your chest better by doing that.
