Recomended Health Support Supplements

Credit William Llewllyn's ANABOLICS, 9th Edition for the following as it is taken directly from the book. I have been looking for health support supplements for use during AAS cycles and found this info useful. I hope you do as well.

Anabolic/androgenic steroid users can help lower the negative health impact of steroid use with the consumption of natural health support supplements. To begin with, the negative cardiovascular effects of these drugs can be offset (at least to some degree) with cholesterol supplements. Fish oil is recommended as a base, which should be stacked with a number of other clinically studied cholesterol support ingredients including green tea, garlic powder, resveratrol, phytosterols, niacin, and policosinol. The blended product Lipid Stabil (Molecular Nutrition) includes these ingredients and is recommended. Cholesterol support supplements should be taken at all times during anabolic steroid therapy. Next, those taking oral steroids should be reducing liver strain with a liver support supplement. Recommended products include Liver Stabil (Molecular Nutrition), Liv-52 (Himalaya Drug Company), and Essentiale Forte (Aventis). One of these products should be taken at all times during therapy with hepatotoxic agents.

Silybum (MT) inactivates cytochromes P450 (P450) 3A4 and 2C9 preventing the metabolism of testosterone to 6-beta-hydroxytestosterone. This would seem to potentiate testosterone. Perhaps this is way off though.

Silybin inactivates cytochromes P450 3A4 and 2C9 and inhibits major hepatic glucuronosyltransferases.

Silybin, a major constituent of the milk thistle, is used to treat several liver disorders. Silybin inactivated purified, recombinant cytochromes P450 (P450) 3A4 and 2C9 in a mechanism-based manner. The inactivations were time-, concentration-, and NADPH-dependent. The inactivation of the 7-benzyloxy-4-(trifluoromethyl-)coumarin O-debenzylation activity (P450 3A4) was characterized by a K(I) of 32 microM, a k(inact) of 0.06 min(-1), and a t(1/2) of 14 min. Testosterone metabolism to 6-beta-hydroxytestosterone (P450 3A4) was also inactivated with a K(I) of 166 microM, a k(inact) of 0.08 min(-1), and a t(1/2) of 9 min. The 7-ethoxy-4-(trifluoromethyl)coumarin O-deethylation activity of purified human P450 2C9 was inactivated with a K(I) of 5 microM, a k(inact) of 0.14 min(-1), and a t(1/2) of 7 min. Parallel loss of heme was observed with both P450s. Activity of both P450 enzymes was not recovered after removal of silybin either by dialysis or by spin gel filtration. In addition, silybin inhibited the glucuronidation of 7-hydroxy-4-trifluoromethylcoumarin catalyzed by recombinant hepatic UDP-glucuronosyltransferases (UGTs) 1A1, 1A6, 1A9, 2B7, and 2B15, with IC(50) values of 1.4 microM, 28 microM, 20 microM, 92 microM, and 75 microM, respectively. Silybin was a potent inhibitor of UGT1A1 and was 14- and 20-fold more selective for UGT1A1 than for UGT1A9 and UGT1A6, respectively. Thus, careful administration of silybin with drugs primarily cleared by P450s 3A4 or 2C9 is advised, since drug-drug interactions cannot be excluded. The clinical significance of in vitro UGT1A1 inhibition is unknown.

People with prostate issues have been taking MT to hope to block the AR. I have heard Saw Palmetto can interfere with the AR as well.

Studies have shown that saw palmetto is an effective anti-androgen. It acts in a similar way that propecia does. Firstly it lowers levels of DHT in the body by blocking 5 alpa-reductase. Secondly Saw Palmetto blocks receptors sites on cell membranes required for cells to absorb DHT.

I still think SP should be taken, as the good outweighs the "bad".

Last time I checked, MT still had never been proven to help liver function.

Krill oil is great for the cholesterol and has LITTLE effects on the muscle unlike typical fish oil. I like celery seed extract for bp, nac and TUDCA for the liver, and adaptogens are great to have while on cycle. Niacin also GREAT for cholesterol

I just started taking Krill oil (KTS) and I already take Niacin as a part of my daily vitamins...I have genetically low Hdl so I am doing all I can to raise it. I was on Niaspan but it is too expensive for me to pay for even with insurance.

^^^Not your typical vitamin E supplement, there are many health benefits for Toco-8 that can be utilized year round.

I've noticed thicker hair and beard growth increases with toco 8, I remember reading someone say that it also sensitizes the testes and can decrease cortisol slightly, vitamin e, who knew?

It's pretty awesome.

About the Milk Thistle... I thought it was only blocking androgen receptors in certain areas, like the prostate, and not others, like in muscle?

From what I have read that is the case, not sure where the studies I have read showed that though.
