semi-noob needing some advice upon re-entering the world

Greetings everyone! Forum noob here. Short bit of background before I get to the question(s).

I'm 28, 6' bout 200 and about 20 lbs of excess fat. 6 years ago I had an incident that required considerable physical therapy and as a side effect, depressed the hell out of me. Up until that point I had always been very fit (high school athelete, joined the army etc etc). For a couple years I was informed that I couldn't work out like I used to and i may never be able to again. One thing led to another and I got pretty bummed out and just let myself go. I got back from the doc today and asked the question I always do. "Am I ready?" He gave me the green light! I can't tell you how stoked I am!

However.... I don't know where to begin! There are SO many damn supplements and hoodoo stuff it honestly boggles my mind. I can go back to one of my old daily caloric intake plans, however that was designed for someone of much better condition and quite a bit younger.

My plan is to drop some of this fat and get back the muscle mass I used to have, if not improve upon it. Gear has always scared the crap out of me but I might consider it sometime later on after I've gotten back into the swing of things.

I've perused this board at length and found a lot of useful information, but much of it is targeted towards people that are already up to speed and looking for a little more. Other than the physical therapy and basic day to day chores, I'm in crap condition. Do yall have any suggestions where I may be able to look for some guidance as well as what kind of supplements I might look at taking? Actually, any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanx very much for the insight and help!

Nico

First thing you need to do is start doing some real cardio atleast 3 times a week. What kind of injury did you have?

The only supplements out there that actually work in my opinion are whey protein and creatine.
