In general, you want high GI carbs post workout. The higher the better, which is why most people take liquid carbs like dextrose, maltodextrin, or amylose immediately after exercise. Carbs are more important than protein immediately after exercise because you need to drive glucose back into the muscles as quick as possible to help repair the muscle tissue. Protein is important too, but not as time sensitive.
If you are trying to lose weight, this doesn't change. Taking care of your muscles should be priority when dropping body fat. If you are cutting carbs, then cut carbs from all your meals except pre and post workout. Post workout carbs are vital to muscle health.
