Anyone every do their deads on the smith machine? Does the lack of bar mobility increase risk of back injury or might it be helpful?

I would not do deads on a smith machine. I'm no doctor but I would think it would increase the chance of injury. Why would you want to do them on the smith machine anyway? And your avatar...DAMN!

dont know about your question but that avatar sho is sweet.

I cant imagine being able to keep good form on a fixed bar like that.

I too have to agree with everybody as that is a fantastic peice of ass. Looks like Keyra Agustina.

A absolutely HORRIBLE idea for so many reasons I don't have the time of day to explain.

Get an olympic barbell

Load plates

lift the damn thing using good deadlift form

No fancy equipment involved and one of the two MOST important lifts you can do. Squats and deads are the KING, and CO-KING of lifts.

And please don't ask if it's OK to squat in the smith, it's not.

I should have been more clear. I meant SLDLs. I tried them when the racks were taken up. Everything felt fine, actually a diff kind of stretch in the hams.

its better than not doing them at all.

Imagine standing behind that <<<<< while she's doing SLDLs with no panties and a short skirt :wackit:

Really? I spent about 2 months squatting on the smith, cuz I had a huge cast after surgery and looked like Megaman. My thumb wasn't mobile so I couldnt rack and unrack weights. The Smith didn't feel too bad on the squats though. But it was just like a final solution, it was all I could do.

Yeah, it's better then nothing but far from ideal. If that's all you could do, then go for it.

Only problem with that kind of thought process is soooooo many will box themselves in with the "thats all I can do".

I hear it constantly and when you either put the guys on a box, or teach them to squat all of a sudden the "I can only squat in the smith" goes out the window. But yes, if it is TRULY all that can be done it is better than a non-squating alternative.
