Hey guys! I've been dropping fat for some time now and one of the things I make myself are oat pancakes. I basically just mix egg whites and oats together and throw them in a pan with some cinnamon and salt. I've been eating this using a calorie-free pancake syrup made by Walden Farms. They are using sucralose (splenda) as the sweetner and I had no trouble losing weight.
Recently, I made the switch to a sugar-free syrup that uses sorbitol as the sweetner. It doesn't say it is calorie-free as the Walden Farms product, but that it has about 30 calories per 1/4 cup, all of which come from the 12g of carbs made up by the sugar alcohol. I was under the impression that it would be virtually calorie-free because sugar alcohol isn't digestible, but I appear to have been mistaken, and that sorbitol is partially digestible at about 2.5 calories/g, which is how they come up with 30 calories (12*2.5) Do you guys think this is a big deal? I am also wondering whether the Walden Farms product is misleading in that sucralose may also be partially digestible and that it isn't exactly calorie-free?
