South Beach Diet

Hello ladies, any help on this matter would be appreciated. My wife recently gave birth to our first child and during the pregnancy she put on a little more that she wanted to. Well the first 35 came off pretty easy but this last 20 is not coming off without some work. Now she has not been exercising or eating well until the last couple of weeks. Believe me it is hard to do while breat feeding and keeping up with our little girl but she is doing her best. She is thinking of trying the SBD to maybe get her back in focus of eating good and exercising. I guess my question is do any of you ladies have experience withthis diet or have opinions about it. Thank You in advance!!

I honestly can't say I'm familiar with the SBD, but dieting is much more simple than most people think. Believe it or not, you don't have to cut out whole food groups or starve yourself to lose. Just browse thru the diet forum, (or better yet, post this in there as well) and look for a plan you think your wife could maintain. There are lots of great people on here who really know their stuff, and can help you customize a plan for your wife. Good luck and post results!

Thank You for your response. I agree it is easier than most think and she has always done well. I guess it is just harder when you get away from your every day routine that you are used to and hard to get your focus back when you are worried about diapers and burp cloths :baby: LOL! Since I want to do this with her and keep her motivated using the buddy system, I thought it might work well since you cut a lot of carbs and you eat a lot of protein especially the first 2 weeks. I usually follow a body builders diet whereas she has always followed a more lean and fitness diet, but with summer here it is time for me to get my 6'9 295 frame a little leaner. She is 5'7 and 150 right now and looking to drop about 20lbs. Minx, thank you for your help :wavey: I will post this in the diet forum also.

You're welcome Bigun! We do what we can ;) Ok, if the SBD is high protein/low carb, then that doesn't sound very bad; just make sure she is getting fiber and plenty of raw vegetables. You don't want to cut out any nutrients, esp. if she is breastfeeding. Congrats on taking that diet head-on with your wife; success levels are always higher when you have someone as a support system. Don't forget to post your results; there are a lot of women out there looking to lose that baby weight!

We lost 9 lbs each the first week. I am sure it is mostly "water weight". We are eating a ton of protein. The lack of carbs is affecting the intensity of our workouts, we are a little sluggish and having sugar withdrawals :). Overall I think this is a good diet for someone who just needs to get their focus back on nutrition and not eating junk. We can't wait until next week when we can add our good carbs back to the diet. I would reccommend it for a beginner or like I said someone who just needs to get the focus back and wants to follow a structured plan. We will keep you updated. Thanks, Minx
