Strengthening the knee...

Ok so about a month ago I partially tore my MCL and was worried about needing surgery and whatnot to get it fixed (I'm an athlete, so my knees are real important to me) but after about a week and a bit it felt like it was nearly 100% again so I decided to start training and playing again...sure enough I re-injured it. This has happened to me once since then and now it seems like its not really healing as much as it was before...its not as sore as when I recently re-injure it or anything, but it just hasnt seemed to get any better. I'm looking for some good exercises I could do to try and get the strength back up in my knee without pushing the limits too much, I really don't want to re-injure it again. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks alot.

You should maybe seek a sports theropost , they are trained with injuries in the knee!

A few years back a broke my patella and tore my MCL. I was a handicap for almost a complete year! My suggestion would also be to seek a sports therapist. They can aid you in what exercises you will benefit from and also which ones you may need to stay away from. I personally found that pool exercises really helped me during my recovery. Great cardio as well. Good luck.

First off check with a doctor and see what the scoop is. If you did tear something your just making it worse. My girlfriend just had orthoscopic to pull torn cartilidge out of her knee. She's been out of the gym for a month, mild walking and day to day activity only. After the month she is cleared to start cardio and mild leg exercies such as light leg extensions (not isolated), light leg press and body weight squats down to 45 degrees. After the month we can try to deepen the squats to a steeper angle.

Honestly though get it checked out. She put it off and this is where she ended up. Unless your going to have the knee completly re-built you should be back up to almost par within 3 to 4 months. If it comes down to needing major work, check out the spreads on Victor Martinez in Muscular Development magazine. He had his knee cut wide open and is know in rehab.

Thanks alot for the advice, its been almost 2 months now since my initial knee injury and I finally got around to seeing a doctor about it (just felt so busy between work and playin baseball that I kept on putting it off). My MCL is basically fully healed now as it wasn't too severe a tear, but apparently I also tore the cartilage in my knee and possibly my meniscus too...I'm really regretting not going to the doctor sooner haha. But ya, I just wanted to come thank you guys for the advice and let you know what was goin on. Thanks again.

The best thing you can do is get it checked. I injured my knee a few years back and ignored the signs, then sure enough I broke my pattela and ruptured my acl and meniscus (was pretty messy) and even after ACL recon and miniscus trim my knee will never feel or be as strong as it once was. my squat is shit and ROM is not as good.

Only advice I have is take care of your wheels. hope it doesnt cause too much bother.
