Anyone have any studies that show the effects stress may have on making gains?

I love to read research, and im more stressed than I ever have been at the moment and i cant gain weight and i know im in a calorie surplus...

No studies on hand...but I happen to know that stress can certainly hinder muscle gains. Cortisol, is a stress hormone. It is released during stressful times. Cortisol is actually damaging to bodily tissues and is known to cause tissue breakdown....including skeletal muscle. It offers temporary relief of pain and prepared you for a "fight or flight" response, but in the long run, cortisol is what is behind all the bodily damage that stress causes.

How about stress as experienced in in boot camp for say Navy Seals? Those guys get beefed up under alot of pressure, right?
