sugar after training

if a post workout drink calls for simple carbs, why is it a bad idea to use refined sugar in their drink? is it a bad idea? Wont it just have the same effect as dextrose?

If you're referring to table sugar, then no. Table sugar is about HALF fructose. It will not have the same effect as dextrose.
 
I've been using table sugar because I don't have enough money to buy dextrose and maltodextrin at the moment, but it's not optimal. It's not a totally bad choice, yet it's just not that good either. Hopefully next week I'll be able to buy some malto and dex though.
 
Oh, also table sugar has a much lower glycemic index than dextrose due to the fructose content.

No, maltodextrin has a much higher GI than glucose or maltodextrin.
