Sumo vs. Standard deadlift?

Any idea as to which would build more muscle and strength?

Who does what and why?

Man...I love deadlifting....
 
Good question! In my personal opinion, Sumo is stonger for most, traditional or feet at narrow position is better for building muscles. When i was younger and power lifted, I did sumo style because i could pull more. now i do standard because i'm focused more on muscle building.
 
both. they work similar muscles but in a different way. i actually pull more in regular i think because i'm used to doing it that way.

they are very different positions as far as back strain and leg effort IMO. i prefer regular deads but i work in sumo also just to mix things up.
 
I honestly think it is based on body type for building muscle and strength. Some can pull more on sumo because of gear (powerlifting gear) while others pull more raw on conventional. All about how our body mechanics are. I would say if you really wanna know run two differnt training cycles with each separately with same diet and supplement regime to compare. If not just do the one you like more. Or cycle them both. :). Have fun.
 
Sumo targets the glutes more but you should be doing both and several other exercises should be part of any strength training routine. Mix it up and toss in some rack pulls, stiff leg deadlifts, and good mornings, too.
