What are your thoughts on them in a cutting diet.. they seem to be pretty high in Carbs, would this be something ok to eat at night?? Along with a steak or chicken? The only carbs I have during the day are:

9pm instant oatmel
11pm Broccoli or brussell sprouts
1pm Broccoli or brussell sprouts

INSANT oatmeal??? tisk tisk.. go for old fashioned oats!!
sweet potatoes are an excellent carb source in both a cutting or bulking diet. packed full of nutrients!
when are you training? if its in the evening then the sweet potato is fine, if not then have it earlier in the day.

I new I would get it for the instant oatmeal... I don't have time in the morning to make the old fashioned kind, which honestly I would rather have.. I train around noon on my lunch hour.. what about having a sweet potatoe at the 11 and 1 meals?? is that too much or should I just have one a day??

old fash oats take me 4-5 minutes in the microwave.. could you set your alarm that much earlier ? :)
having the sweet potato at those meals is fine as well. just keep track of progress

Slow cooking oats only take me about 5 mins to cook on the stove top. Put them on as soon as you get up. Go and get other things ready while they cook. Its all about time management.

I would also suggest ditching the instant oatmeal. Take a couple of extra minutes and cook good old fashioned oats.
Sweet potatoes are an excellent carb source whether you're dieting or not so definitley keep them in your diet.:)

ok... i dont have the option for old fashioned oats (by that do you mean like the quaker cylinder tube thing?) all we have at the chow hall is instant... as far as instant, does the regular flavor have less sugar? maybe ill try eating regular flavor from now on.

Are sweet potatoes a better carb source than regular ones?

Yah, the oats either come in a bag or sometimes a cylinder. Okay, if you don't have an option of the regular oats, I would totally suggest just switching to the regular flavor. You can jazz it up by adding a little sweetener and some cinnamon. I prefer Splenda as my sweetener choice but there are all sorts of sweeteners out there.
Definitely a better choice over the flavored oatmeals.:)

Does it taste good or does it have that "poison" sweetener taste?

Rsx-Sman,

I would definately suggest adding more carbs with sweet potatoes(or something similar in the way of being low glycemic), your idea of eating a serving around 11 and 1 is a good one. Assuming your time spent lifting is with make-you-puke intentsity (which can be hard being so restricted on carbs as you are), you really need more carbs in the diet imo.

A way to help you now how much to eat is to use your fist size as a reference and pick a sweet potato (or cut one) that is the size of your fist. For me for example that would end up yielding around a potato with 25-30 grams of carb per serving.

Good Luck Cutting up!
