Switching muscle groups

Whenever I work out I usually do one muscle group and then a different group and then go back to the first group but isolated. Should I start working on the same muscle directly after a compound workout or continue what I am doing now?

i usually combine body part workouts that support each other and save the isolations for the end of the set...such as say back/bis, i would do bis first say starting with some standing e-z bar curls, then hammer curls, then preacher curls then some 21s then some pure isolation curls then move on to the back exercises.

From one Oklahoman to another, what are 21s?

21's are done with an e-z bar just like standing curls but you just do the bottom half of the curl 7 times then go straight to the top half and do it 7 times then do 7 full curls. be sure and do them very controlled and with good form and you will definately feel the burn when you get done. try them and let me know if you like them!

3 sets will be plenty if you are using enough weight, but remember...keep it to where you can control it and keep good form.

why are you blasting your bi's then goin on to a much larger muscle group like back?? if its working for you great, but i think the majority here would suggest big muscles first with compound movements then smaller muscles afterwards...just my 2cents.

i usually do bis first, then back and it's working pretty well, but i will switch it up and try doing back first then bis...i appreciate the input (especially if it works better).
thanks

i think you will be much happy with the reslults from working back 1st over bi's...remember bi's are getting hammered while doing all back work...if you hit bi's 1st, then they are going to be to exhausted to move the really heavy wt you need for your back. go check out the work out journal section and see what some the big cat's here are doin...you'll notice a lot of them barely do any direct bi work.

Since the back complements the bi's and so on in reverse, I was wondering if it would be a good idea to split back and bi's into different days. Working, lets say, back on monday and bi's on friday instead of tiring the hell out of both in one day and waiting a whole week to work on them again?

its all in what one wants to do...there are a lot of differnt opinions on it. i prefer to do heavy back work and only hit bi's with 1-2 exercies and only do a total of maybe 4-6sets. i do not use or like BB splits, i stick to heavy compound lifts/movements and very few "iso" lifts.

just remember that if you hammer the hell out of them in one day, then give yourself plenty of rest and healing time before hitting them again your muscles will grow better. that is why alot of people do 3 day splits...so they have time to heal after a hard workout!
