I just add 5g to my drink during a workout and that's the only time I would take it - never on my off days, that's just how I do it. I don't find that you need it post workout. Pre-workout is a good time to take it as well.
i'm always a big fan of when ever you want it..i take 5g's during my work out and 5g's post work out. and on non work out days i take 5g's with my casien shake before bed.
