Testosterone and sleep

I cant sleep. Ive been not sleeping for two months now and it drives me mad. I lie in the bed all night pondering. At day I cant concentrate and I have difficulties with my concentration. I have relatively low t-levels (around 300 ng/l with low shbg 16 nmol/l). Is there any link between low testosterone and sleep quality?

Post more blood work. Adrenals?

I slept fine before testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) at a sub 180 total t level and fine after.

There are a number of factors that will affect your sleep. You can't concentrate during the day because you are not getting any sleep. I had trouble a couple of years ago. I changed my diet (low carbs) and now sleep like a baby. The only time I have trouble is when I carb up. Good luck..

You should talk with your doctor about undergoing a sleep study to rule out sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is one of the causes of low testosterone.

very high test levels and obesity will cause sleep apnea. its not fatal when its from the test though.

OP ive had insomnia on and off for the past 10 years. its comes and goes. it got really bad when my T was low. its better now that im on trt.

Anything can cause sleep problems. Take a timed release melatonin 2.5mg pill and 800mg of gaba and then tell me you can't sleep.

I had sleep problems until I started training three years ago. My workouts are late afternoon/early evening and by 9pm I'm trashed and fall asleep in a few minutes. imo diet and alcohol also have a big effect on the quality of sleep.

Thx

for the replies. The thyroid hormones were ok. the androgenes are low-normal like two years before. My diet hasnt changed for a year. it resembles more or less a low carb diet and I try to eat only non-industrial food. My HB is normal so I dont think Ive got sleep apnea?! I can breathe the whole night while being awake indeed. I didnt check the adrenals though. On the other hand I dont show any obvious sign of Cushing disease?! Is it possible to have high Cortisol without cushing symptoms?

Gaba for sleep?

GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter. So yes, it is sedating in higher supplemental doses. Any google search will show that.

And as far as Cushings goes, imo that is a bullshit diagnosis unless you have an adrenal tumor or something, and even then it is arguable to whether or not that was not just a result of prolonged stress causing hyperactivity of the adrenal glands. But it is common for diurnal patterns of cortisol secretion to be off in those with hormone imbalances and stress diseases (which probably most non congenital diseases are stress induced). The best thing you could do would be to get on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) and take an herbal adaptogen to try and get things in order. I have no doubt that your body has altered its stress response if you are not sleeping at night. For me simply restoring hormones was not enough to mediate stress. Adaptogens when used properly are quite powerful and have saved my body from lots of stress induced entropy.
