The brain stopped the ESTROGEN??

Not sure if this is the correct forum to be posting this in but I figured since it concerned a female, what better place.

My girlfriend went off the pill about a year ago. Since then she has not had her period. We have been to a family doctor, which referred us to a somewhat specialist who seems clueless on the subject. Her body is no longer producing estrogen.

She has been on estrogen therapy for the last 90 days as the specialist said it should kick start estrogen production. Which has not. She was then put on progesterone for the last 10 days. She started some light bleeding, we went to the doctor and were told its her period, but not her period. The progesterone allows for the shedding of the uterun lining, So there is not an accumulation reducing the chance of cancerous cells. And she is back on estrogen and was told to check up in a YEAR!

She is active, in the gym 5-6 days a week. She has s bf% of 14%. Another thing the doctor mentioned was he now wants her to gain another 8% because her body fat is too low. We also questioned about Clomid, and were told that any drug of that sort would not help. And if we do not get pregnant in a year then we would have to do IVF.

She is deeply saddened by this as we have been trying to have a baby. Its very discouraging and she can't seem to feel like herself. Its like living with a women who is going through menopause. The mood swings, really bad loss of memory, extremely emotional.

We were told this is pretty rare. Being some of you play with hormones maybe someone had an idea.

Any input would be appreciated.

Did the doc check her test levels too?

All estrogen in the female body begins as testosterone(or androstenidone which is a test precursor), its simple steroidogenesis. If shes not producing estrogen then shes likely not producing testosterone either, unless shes having a problem with aromatase. Also, since progesterone is more at the top of the steroid chain than estrogen or test, and the fact that shes not producing that either makes me think this is probably the case. Replacing the estogen alone will solve estrogen related issues but without testosterone the sex drive and metabolism wont be revived. Its probably the missing "element" in why shes not feeling herself. Dont know about the period part. The progesterone should stimulate it. Maybe it takes time. Did she get a full panel hormone workup?

Just my thoughts. Not saying to give her shots of test or anything. lol

I appreiciate the input, I put on my list of things to talk to the doc about. thanks

So sorry to hear this. It does happen though and your girlfriend was one of the unlucky ones.

Maybe start looking into adoption just in case you can't get preggo.

I'm pretty sure your doctors would have checked test levels already but do ask in case.

I can think of nothing that can be done. However I suggest you get a second opinion anyhow. There are advances in medicine being made all the time and one doctor may know something another does not.
