Thinking of getting a lorikeet(bird)

Birds are cool. I bought two parakeets a couple of months ago. Unfortunately, my 5 year old son got too excited around them and one got really spooked, after which, it proceeded to fly into a wall and break its neck. My wife and I bought another parakeet and everything has worked out well thus far.

As a general rule for birds, I'd recommend just about anyone NOT get a lorikeet. All birds are messy but these birds are even worse. Their entire diet consists of a nectar type of food in the wild so you have to have very specialized food for them. In which case this food is extremely messy, can be expensive, and a hassle in general. As a first bird I'd look into a green cheek conure. Preferably not from major retail stores.
