Time Off

Do you take (planned) time off from lifting? If so, how much and how often? What do you view as the benefits?

I have a real phsycological problem doing this even though I know it would do me some good. I usually change up my programs to avoid over-training but rarely, do I take a week off.

well, i usually see i need time off when my workouts seem to lose its intensity and progress (mentally). Usually let the body tell me when i need time off.

I usually take a week or sometimes 2 off a year. Only one is planned, usually if I have to take more time off it's b/c something came up. I HATE taking time off from the gym tho! I feel like shit after missing just one workout and missing the whole week...damn I feel like I lost everything.

Ditto. I generally won't take a full week off unless I absolutely have to, but about every 2-3 months I'll take a week where I only work out once or twice, (either full body or upper/lower) just to give my body some time to rest.

If you dont want to take a day off, then dont. I usually take 1 day off per week to relax, or do some cardio only. Sometimes two times a week, depending on what I feel I need.

Dont take a whole week off. Sometimes on rare occation, its good to take a week off.

Good to take a week once every 6 months or so, when you start again there's a freshness that makes it worthwhile. A week off's not going to adversely effect you but definitely helps psychologically and aids the central nervous system.

Exactly! i feel like i loose so much when i have a week off, but then again i do believe its benefits in training to take 1 week of every now and then. I take 1 every 12 weeks, and i lift low reps 5days/week.
