Training split ?

Hi guys, been awol for a while but back into the gym again now, hoping to compete again next year.
Just wondering how many days/week everyone trains ? Since I have got back into it I have been training 3 days/week. I have done a fair bit of training like this since Dorian made it popular. I seem to get good gains from it. I work 7 days/week so I feel I need the recovery time.
I was talking to a well respected trainer here who reckons that I can't be competetive training 3 day/wk. I have won 2 national titles doin this previously so I'm wondering why I need to train 5 day/wk ? I will still only be training each bodypart once/wk, so what is the difference ?
I know I should just keep doing what has worked previously, but it is playing with my head now.
