I don't have my previous blood work for these, forgot to ask (I was in the hospital for a check up on my hernia and decided to ask for a basic blood test since I had fasted).
I've been on a ketogenic diet since the end of July.
I did my first carb refeed last week, felt great, my blood sugars weren't happy with me though.
Total Cholesterol : 151 (120-220)
Triglycerides : 268 (35-150) HIGH
HDL : 30 (42-67) LOW
Fe : 51 (65-200) LOW
h1ac : 5.8 (Under 6.2)
fasting BG : 125 (70-110) HIGH This is normal for me when I don't get enough rest, stress hormones upon waking.
I expected my tri's to drop but instead they've gone up. I expected my HDL to go up, but instead they've gone down. My HDL wasn't high to begin with though, it was hovering around 40 for as long as I can remember.
This was the first time I've been told I had low iron levels. Do iron levels change throughout the day? I eat broccoli and spinach almost everyday. I had a big serving last night (I didn't want what we had to go bad and my macros allowed for it). I do feel tired a lot of the time (Thought it was a carb thing thus the first refeed in 3 months) and the doctor said to be careful when it comes to anemia. Should I be eating more iron in the morning, supplementing or are these levels possibly reduced due to intense resistance training? Today is Friday, yesterday was back and triceps, the day before quads and calves (Intense, I'm still feeling it today).
I asked the doctor how to deal with all the above issues. Her answers were: Your blood glucose is high, but you said that's normal in the morning. There's no concern with raising HDL, I don't know how you would. Just eat fish and exercise. Iron, maybe take a supplement. Just be careful to not suffer from anemia. I don't know about your tri's. I would say eat less fat but your diet says to eat mostly fat. This is keeping your blood sugar down well. Don't worry too much about getting all your numbers in just the right spot.
My liver and kidney functions were all perfect. My CRP was 0.6 (Anything under 0.5) but she didn't think this was due to the previous nights back and triceps training.
Any input would be great!
