Upper back pain... Back pumps?

First of all, I am not on cycle, nor have I ever been on a cycle before. That being said, I am having the most messed up pain in my upper back, I've heard of back pumps and I am just wondering if thats all it is...

It's a pain right in between my shoulder blades, just a little high, I feel the pain most when I move my head around, like it's connected to the tissue that is attached to my spinal column to the neck. It's ok if my neck is no sloutched, but hurts to turn my head all the way, or look down, and in bed, it hurts like hell if I'm not careful.

I just started doing the 5x5 routine and I think it may have something to do with it... I am also thinking I could have slept on my neck wrong. however, it's been hurting for a few days now and doesn't seem to be getting any better...

Is this something common? If so, whats the best thing to do?

Today is Friday so I won't be back at the gym until Monday so hopefully it will be fine by then.

sounds like a muscle strain of infraspinatus. There is a lot going on back there just take some time and rest from lifting for a few days maybe some ibprophen for inflamation.

IMO the best thing to do is rest

Pain is much better today, actually, getting towards the evening of last night I noticed it was a lot better than before (didn't try the Ibuprofen)... I think I'll be fine by monday.

Yesterday was an off day, as well as today and tomorrow, there's still slight discomfort but nothing as serious as I initially thought.

Might be your traps too. I get the worst cramps in my traps, can bring me to my knees. It must be a pretty funny sight seeing it happen but man it sucks. I thought calf cramps were bad but ive never felt anything like a cramp in the traps.

I was thinking the same thing... I've always had big traps for my size and they are really growing now...

This is really getting annoying... I still have some pain but a lot of discomfort, I haven't been to the gym today yet, wanted to wait until later to let some more time pass to see if it got better; it hasn't much... This sucks...

Sometimes I get pains in that area, last time it was about 4 weeks before it went TOTALLY away. I didn't like turning my head to the right, just some strain in the area, all fine now.

Make sure not to overtrain the upper traps too, causes forward rotation of the shoulders, and causes upper back issues and rotators.

Does it seem to hurt less after a warm up? After 10 minutes on the elliptical I didn't really notice it very much, got my workout in, fairly pain free... Now that I'm sitting back down at home, I can feel it again.

For me it came and went through the day, but the last episode had sometimes constant light pain up the right side of my neck. So as for warmups it was really semi-random through the day, sometimes I felt ok other times it would flare up on me.

From my experience you have described a strained rhomboid.
This has happen to me, I went to the
doctor to confirm and posted a thread
a few months ago trying to figure out
what the hell I did.

Get someone to find the knots in the connective tissue around your scapula have them rubbed on but not pulverized.
Take it easy on overhead presses, and
pulling exercises till its gone.

I was prescribed some muscle relaxers
to keep me still at night It took 3 weeks till it healed. It's a very annoying injury. Time
will tell how bad you strained it.
Hot/Cold press helps also.

Short update: 16 days since the pain started and now it is gone.

The masseuse thing was tempting, especially when I found a posting from a local girl on craigslist who does topless massages... But, I passed :Pat:

Good man, you would have had to pay MORE
for the C-list girl's services anyway!

I can't fucking believe it, I did it again, this time I knew it exactly when it happened.

I had explosive intensity when reaching for the ez bar to do my seated preacher curls then, BAM! Right when I grabbed the bar and jerked it up, I felt a pinch and a sting right in the same exact spot as before.

The old pain came back instantly, like it never left. FUCK!
