Varioceles, no libido, semi low testosterone

Hi, so for about a year now i've been going seeing different urologists about my low libido. In my journey i've seen 3 different urologists, i've had elevated prolactin and have gotten an MRI to rule out any tumor, i've gotten numerous bloodtests with testosterone ranging from 300- 450, I've discovered that i have large grade 3 varioceles and i've had 3 semen anaylsis tests that came out bad. So so far my urlogist reccomends thats i get a variocelectomy, which i am willing to get done because that may fix my T levels and libido and also prevent any further damage to my testicles.

But, my health insurance is telling me that they won't cover the surgery unless they see significant evidence, so i'm sending out some bloodwork and hoping for the best. I am hoping this surgery will fix my problem soon.

I feel crappy most days and i am very fatigued, i used to love going to the gym but now it's become very depressing with the lack of energy and how i haven't progressed much at all within the past 5 years of going.

I've tried eating healthy and eating foods that help support testosterone, but nothing really seems to bring any real sex drive whatsoever.

I am really tempted in maybe taking some testosterone in the meantime and just to see how i feel on it. Like maybe try out a shot or 2 and see how that goes, would that be a stupid idea to do so? What happens if you do like 2 weeks of 200 mg test and just stop? i can't really find any information on stopping a cycle midway.

( btw, i've also talked to my doctor about taking clomid, he said that clomid rarely works in patients, my urologist also beleives that my testosterone levels are fine and that most people that he sees my age actually have lower amounts of testosterone than me.... which i don't really believe).

Hi there,

The urologist who said your testosterone levels were fine is a fool. Back in the 1940's T levels averaged a massive 700 nanograms per deciliter across all age groups.

A test in the 350 range was almost unheard of, even in the 65 to 75 age demographic. Men back then were also releasing 380 million sperm per ejaculation, on average. Today the average ejaculation has fallen to a mere 180 million sperm.

So "Normal" to him is what men are testing at today. But normal it ain't if you take a quick peek back at history.

So it's good you're taking this situation seriously. I've known several men with varioceles who have done just fine with no surgery. But never with three of them, all at stage 3.

I'm certain your decreased semen parameters and your Low T won't budge until you get this surgery done. If I were you I'd be looking for a Plan B if the health insurance doesn't come through. And by Plan B I mean sell your car, mortgage your house, or whatever it takes because your fatigue, and loss of zest for life are going nowhere until you get this situation handled.

And others may disagree with me here, but I highly suggest that you take a pass on the testosterone. That would be a bandaid fix at this point. And would only atrophy your testicles further.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply, yeah i definitely agree with you on the fact that i know my T levels should atleast be 200 points higher, and i definitely do need this surgery.

I feel stupid though because i never complained of pain before and my insurance would of probably covered it if i complained of discomfort, now i actually am feeling discomfort and i really just want to get this surgery done and out of the way. Right now i'm just sdesperate to feel better soon, do you reccomend that i try out a low dose of clomid just to get my T up a little bit in the meantime, or should i just wait and keep pushing my insurance to approve of this surgery?

Just got the surgery done on monday, i'm recovering now. Has anyone on this board gotten a variocelectomy and has gotten decent results from doing so? Like higher libido, muscle gains and fat loss?
