Ventrogluteal Injection Site... Ever Try This?

Doing the TRT thing
After doing some research on the best IM injection sites, a lot of the literature listed the Ventrogluteal injection site as the best option because there are no major nerves or arteries near it.

Do you have any experience using this injection site? Thoughts?

From the site:

"Ventrogluteal site: Is the most comfortable and safest for IM injections. This site is not close to any major blood vessels or nerves. The landmarks for this site include the greater trochanter, anterior superior iliac spine and iliac crest. With the patient on their side place the palm of your hand on the greater trochanter, the index finger on the anterior superior iliac spine and the middle finger pointing toward the iliac crest. View diagram below"

Yes. I love the VG site. It's very easy to pin and you can easily use a 1.5" needle. You should have no problem finding it, assuming you are a squatter. ;)

I use it too. The standard way of finding the site (as per link above) works better on someone else than on yourself.

Someone with average or high bodyfat you need to use the technique of feeling for bones under the skin.

If you are lean and have well developed gluteal muscles, you should be able to see the gluteus medius from the side as a triangle with point down formed by the tensor faciae (in front) and the gluteus maximus (in back) both overlapping the gluteus medius.

Lay in bed on your side and raise your leg up in the air. Kind of like if you were doing jumping jacks. You will be able to feel the VG flex when you raise your leg. Another way is when standing, you can shift your weight to the side pushing your hip out. You should be able to feel the VG as well.

Once I find it I usually mark it with the end of a capped syringe before I clean the area with an alcohol swab. Just push in hard to leave a small indentation in the skin so you can remember where to pin.

When you are pinning, I find it easiest to lean against the bathroom vanity. Just angle yourself so you can use both hands for the injection. Some people like to lay down on their side to do the injection, but I think it is slightly harder to use two hands this way. And if you get some blood streaming out after the injection it could make for a messier cleanup.

My only other tip is to not be afraid to get the needle in all the way. If you don't you can get lunps and/or abscesses.

P.S. Just remembered... next time you go in for a doctor appointment, ask the doc or nurse to show you where the spot is. They can demonstrate the trick of putting your hand on your trochanter to find the VG injection spot.

I need to revisit this injection site. I tried ONCE and had a lot of blood stream out post injection. Enough to make me wanna stick to quads and glutes. Being that TRT Is for life though, I guess it would be wise to gain proficiency with all injection site options!

When I first did ventroglutes, I had the wrong spot. The ventrogluteal area is pretty free of nerves and major blood vessels, that's what makes it so suitable. Maybe you got unlucky, and maybe you haven't found the right spot yet.

Appreciate the feedback. I'll review the injection protocol for that site and try again next Wed when inject. Got good musculature and am fairly lean so I should be able to find the anatomical landmarks.

ive found it to be the easiest to reach, most painless to pin, but the most pip the next couple days. I think it's due to the fact that you're constantly flexing it when you walk and using it all day it causes some pip.
