do any of you use a specfic warm-up method before weight training?

if so what types of things do you do?

warm up on cardio equipment for 5-10 mins, either the bike or treadmill. do a light ab + lower back work out.

then start lifting. I always start light, bar only ( no weight) and then stretch between sets. the intensity of the stretch increases as I progress

walk to gym...flirt with girls...stretch..low back warm up...more stretches..start light with moderate reps..then hit it hard!

i've been using the bands a lot (traction). Shoulder and hip traction have been tremendous.

I've also been studying the dynamic warm-up methods that the parisi speed school teaches, i really think their hip movements will help me out.

any of you ever use dynamic warm-ups?

I have always felt that i am too tight in several areas and that it has inhibited my strength, but i've never been able to find the correct way to attack the problem. Every time i do static stretching i get hurt. So these new methods have made a huge difference in how my body has been feeling.

Short story - My GF sister is in high school and runs cross country. She was struggling a little with some times so I went out to help her get ready the day of the meet. Instead of having her warm up with the rest of the girls who were doing a lot of static stretching and running, we focused on ideas that parisi incorporates.

Let me say this no longer does the track coach at her school have them warm up the same way.

She had a lot more kick at the end and definately felt better as she had been suffering a hamstring injury. No more

I should also note that i'm really to lazy to warm up - I just use the first exercise with light weights as mine.

Kind of like DO AS I SAY NOT AS I DO.

wow dirk, i really liked the parisi method....

the thing is i still love to play basketball, and i have to really start taking care of my body so i can keep playing at a high level. im 27 now... 30 is just around the corner.

im trying to be as strong as possilbe at 180#'s or less... im 6ft tall... so we'll see how it all works out..

I really should warm up. In the colder months I was using the elliptical trainer as a warmup before aquats or deads and it completely eliminated the pain I had been getting in my knees, I assume bc of the cold weather(???)

No cardio, no stretching. I just do light sets for the muscle group until I feel I am ready. That's it.

ive always foud that to work very well. but was always wondering if it was adequate enough

For me, I lift better with a warm-up method.

Why?

Three potential reasons (for me).

1. Past Injuries.

2. It could be a mental thing. (due to the nature of my injures i feel more confident when i warm-up my hip rotators and shit with "specially designed" movements.

3. It could be that a proper warm-up will benefit everyone.

I don't have any scientific data. Some guys just don't need much to warm-up for whatever reason. I'm just one that does.

I kinda think a proper warm-up will benefit anyone, but a proper warm-up could very easily be vastly different from person to person.

I love hearing what other serious lifters do.
