Over the years I have trained body parts once a week, twice per week and three times per week. Whenever I am not in my best shape, my training regime typically consists of hitting each body part 2x's per week. Right now I am just getting back into the swing of things and I am doing body parts once a week but that is only until I am in better shape and I feel like I can hit the entire body twice per week. When I go online and try researching workouts I keep seeing routines that showcase only hitting the body 1 times per week.
When I am in great shape this is my weekly regime:
Day 1 - morning
Back, forearms, lower abs, lower back
Day 1 - evening
Legs, calves, traps, obliques
Day 2 - morning
Chest, tris, upper abs
Day 2 - evening
shoulders, bis, tris, Serratus
but I am certainly nowhere near that. When I do train body parts twice per week I feel like I am unable to maintain my pump throughout the week. With the above mentioned regime I typically do 4 exercises for major body parts, 3 exercises for smaller body parts, 3 sets each exercise consisting on reps of 15,12,10 or to failure on the last set (sometimes I will super set exercises either on the same body part or by alternating body parts).
With all that being said, how often do you guys hit each body part? My research is indicating that on workouts that I hit each body part once per week I should be adding in an extra exercise per body part but I find that I get greater results from training more often per week than doing more exercises each day while limiting the amount of times per week I train a body part.
What do you guys think? What do you suggest? Do you think that the best advice I can take is the advice given by my body via the results I see from training once, twice, three times?
Thanks in advance.
