I'm looking at doing a career change. I'm 35 now, recently laid off and have done lab work in the high-tech sector for the last 8 years. I'm thinking of doing something totally different and go into welding. I'm looking at taking a Welder C pre-employment type course. Any welders here? Looking for feedback..job prospects in BC, pay....am I too old to get into the field with zero experience etc?lol.

no your not to old buddy.. but welding isnt all its cracked up to be.. im either stuck in a shop for 6months or hanging off a bridge in the winter..lol not only that depending on what your welding the fumes are highly toxic.. stainless steel is up at the top.. smells good burning but is very bad for you.. its too late for me.. but you may want to reconsider.. the pay is great though.. lol

I'm a welder, but no longer by trade. I'm 32 and making a career change. Going back into machining after a 10 year hiatus. I love welding, and I do a lot of it in my shop on personal projects, but I ain't really into doing it for a living.

ive been doing it for career for 14yrs and it gets old.. mig/tig/stick.. it all sucks after 14yrs.. lol just another job..

tigs fun when they bring in cool jobs.. t-tops and hardtops for boats or anything fancy.. but mainly we get stainless gutters and casino kitchen equipment.. i work in a sheet metal shop so we make all kinds of cool shit for ourselves.. grab a sheet of aluminum cut it bend it and weld it.. its fun for a while but now i enjoy the lunch and coffee breaks..

I build bikes and lowriders and what not. I had a TIG but it got ruined in a fire. I'm probably gonna order a Syncrowave 200. I haven't made up my mind completely, but that's what I'm leaning towards.
