What is the proper way to max out on bench press?

Not sure what you mean, but thoroughly warmup, do a good number of sets but none very strenuous, and don't take huge jumps in weight. Your earlier sets should not be working sets, your max should be your only real working set.

as example
if you think you can do about 300 warmup with the bar for a couple of sets of 10-12 , 95x10,135x6-8,185x4-5,225x1-2,255x1,265-270x1,300
always use a spotter when maxxing and dont maxx to often

bar for reps, 95 for 8-10, 135 for 4-5, 185 for a dbl, then hit the big 2 plates. good luck bro.

you can hit 205 for a single if you like after 185.

i remember the first time i hit 225. i was struttin my stuff. it was big day. hell any PR is a big day.

haha i remember the same thing, it was a big deal in hs weight room when you hit 225, even bigger when you joined the 300 club. I remember the first time i hit 400 a few weeks ago, it was something i have been waiting 10 years for. that was probably the best one, i will hit 500 in the next 18 months hopefully, raw.

what he said............i felt tougher than shit the first time pushed 2 wheels....ahh the memories

not meaning to hijack the thread......
my current FB workout is
bar for reps 2x
95lbsx10
135x8
155x4-6
185x1-2
135xfailure
will that be enough to increase my max to 225 (currently at 205)?

i like forced reps with the highest workset. negatives work well to cause you get to feel the weight. i like declines too cause you can move more weight as well. well most folks decline more than they flat.

everyone remembers their 225!! definitely a milestone. 300 was even more awesome and the day before last thanksgiving i hit the elusive 405 and i felt i reached a whole new level . i am hoping by spring to ascend to the 500 lb club. its gonna take some hard work to get from 425 to 500.

I know the feeling. Hell, it's only been like 2 years since I did hit it....................beginning cross country season of my senior year, I could do a WHOPPING 210. By the end of that season (3ish months) I did 275, and when I left for college 11 months after that 210, I pressed 345.

And I haven't gone up but 20lbs since:(
