When to add BA

When making my own compounds, I have always added the BA after the rest of the ingredients have cooled and are close to room temperature. I do this because BA is the ingredient that gives the compound shelf life. It keeps bacteria from growing inside. Im concerned that adding it in the beginning with the powder and solvents, it will get cooked off while heating. Lets face it, its just a type of alcohol.
Im asking because there are lots of recipes online that say to mix your BA in the beginning with your solvents and powder, then heat. Anyone with experience have thoughts on this?
