When to use syringe filters?

This is a random question about syringe filters. When do you need to use them? What is the purpose of using the filter? Also do you always need to transferr test or other types to a new vial? I have just made sure I sterolized everything pulled from original vial what I need then injected.

kul. thanks ox.
i was just reading some other articles and they were talking about good brands of filters but it didnt really explain what it was for.

someone was saing today that you should use.a syringle.filter and transferr your gear from the original vial to a new clean vial. ????

One of my vials had Something floating in it. Had I not Filtered it would have likely abscessed. I first ran it through a .045 pore, then a 0.22. I guess I just wanted to be overly careful. I will never use something out of a brown vial without filtering bc u can't see it. I don't see much of a reason to otherwise. If you do, go with Whatman. Most expensive but worth it. One $4 filter goes a long way (100 ml) if using PVDF.

Hope it helps.

If you feel that you need to filter your gear before you use it then you should probably be using something else.

after the last vial I would absolutly use someone else. Too bad I only know the one place. Since going to another source is not possible today I wanted to see if there was anything I could do to try and make sure the gear is clean as possible. All I knew to do with last vial was trash it and buy more from the same darn place.

Then yes filters would be good for you. The floaty you found may have just been a peice of the rubber stopper on the vial from when you guy filled it up...if so then just dont inject the floaty, the rest of the gear should be fine ;)
