Wholly low T and the start of TRT

Hi everyone,

I have most symptoms of low T so I asked my Dr. to check my T levels. He ordered a test for total testosterone and prolactin.
My total T came back at 125 and prolactin was normal. Looks like I have one of the Dr.s that came over on the Mayflower as I threw out a bunch of questions like I want to be in the optimal range and estrogen conversion. He said I shouldn't have a problem with estrogen. He prescribed me 200mg/ml once a week for 4 weeks and then 200mg/ml for the dreaded every other week after that. I told him from my research that once a week dosing as a base is the newer standard. I explained to him from my research there would be more stable blood levels and less t to e conversion.

My Dr. is a nice guy and I've been with him a long time. If anyone can chime in on what to say or convince him about the newer TRT protocols. Maybe some good links with factual information about dosage frequency and the possibility for the need of an aromatase inhibiter if needed.

I will dose the test at 100mg a week after the 4 week 200mg a week.

Just convince your doc to let you self-inject at home. Then you can do whatever frequency you want. And just tell you will inject more frequently. There is no reason for him to oppose that. Tell him you would put the stuff on an IV drip if it was feasible.

By the way, injecting every 3.5 days is preferred. There is much less aromatization when compared to injecting once per week.

What were you LH and FSH results? Just curious if you are primary or secondary.

I have convinced him to let me inject at home. Actually I told him I would like my wife to learn to do it and he said that would b ok as this will cut cost. As far as the LH and FSH I didn't get any of that information. He just told me my tt number and that my prolactin was normal. Remember this Dr. is from the old school and I believe he is very misinformed of the newer protocols and the importance of complete testing. At some point if he is not going to request testing for estradiol and other important information then I will get a complete panel at private meds and post here for help.

If you haven't started taking the testosterone yet, I would strongly encourage your to get your LH and FSH checked. Once you get on TRT you won't be able to go back and check this. LH and FSH let you know if you have Primary or Secondary Hypogonadism which impacts future decisions you may make.

Why don't these dr.s know about this stuff?? I think the older school docs should get re-educated with a small course on updated hrt therapy. Especially with the amount of men going on testosterone treatment, It is increasing each and everyday and still there are many miss diagnosed men who should be on treatment.
