Why We Do What We Do!!!

I know we have done it before but I need more help with my own motivation......After all, we are all a work not yet completed. The pic i chose this time is Platz...........The message is not to be him or like him..........The message is attitude and motivation and the question "why we do what we do?"

I am training again after a layoff and am also using a stack bigger then ever before....Sometimes I have to re-evaluate what I am doing training , methodology, motivation....I find it helps me to see what motivates other bbers or any lifter. I don't think I have reached my potential though I am older and lost some time. I was shocked that some people at the other board and gym said to stop using AAS's at 35 and plan on slowing down. I say bull-shit. Soooo taking these things into consideration age, motivation, etc. Why do you do what you do??? The majority of us are not doing this to put food on the table. It is about attitude, confidence etc. Unless you can convince me otherwise I think Platz's look or his legs says it all... What keeps you in the game??? Why Do You Do What You Do?.....................................The look of Platz reflects in some way Why We Do What We Do!!! Take it for what it is worth!!!
 
My motivation is all the little guys and fatties and to not be like them that is why I do what I do. Damn I felt like Ms. America right there.
 
i do it to feel better about myself. people are always somewhat mocking me at work cause i eat and lift like an animal all the time....its usually the small guy with 13 inch arms and a bird chest, but oh well..
i do it cause thats what i want to do....Be one of the big dogs..i think it gives you more respect for yourself.

yeah, but when you and birdchest hit the club, whose goin home with 10 and whose going home with his 13'' arms....
thats what its all about... im 18, getting an early start, cause i think ahead...
 
i used to be a little fat shit... i remember about 2 years into my weightlifting i saw a little kid walkin down the street eating a bag of marshmellows... i was thinkin that little fat ass probably thinks since their squishy they wont make him fat... thats when i realized... how many people had said that about me when i looked that way ?

also when i stopped playin football sophmore year of hs i made alot of enemies that were bigger than me... i had to learn to fight and have the strength to take em off their feet...

now in college i do it to set myself apart from every other fat ass beer drinking fraternity guy... im the only guy in my fraternity who weightlifts habitualy.

Also sorority girls love it =)
 
i used to drink and do drugs, when i stopped the fire began to burn for them gym again. For me it is a personal thing, i like to move weight, i like to feel the pain, and i feel much better when i am working out than when i am not. You can not understand what we do, unless you do it, plain and simple, we are very simiilar to anorexics and bolemics, that is why we also should be careful to not get completely obsessed and submerged in this lifestyle.
 
Why do I do it? I was always the little guy. Always standing in everyone elses shadow. Always felt defenseless, weak, and a little scared. Once I started hitting the weights, then eventually the gear, I felt 10 times more confident in every aspect of my life. It's amazing what 40lbs., a set of contact lenses and a little attitude will do to a guy!:D

LOL I've never really been skinny in my life but I've been going to the gym since i was 7 and weight training since I was 10.

I used to work as a bouncer at my uncles club so I needed the strenght and power.

I do a lot of strenght work every now and then so it helps with that too.

I like the confidence it gives me.

I love getting a pump.

This is the overall main reason for me.

I grew up in a rough neighbourhood and fighting was always in the scripts so I basically booked myself into self defense classes and very soon it took off to the level where I really got into it and all I did was fight. Man I remember before I got ill a few months ago I used to spend almost all day stretching or doing little things, sheet I can remember watching a movie while sharpening my knuckles or trying to improve my grip strenght by pressing my hands into the steering wheel in the car..

After a three month illness and 4 month lay off and having lost a hell of a lot of weight I seriously need to re-evaluate my situation and get myself back into the gym... wish me luck!

muscle memory will kick in take advantage of it train/eat/rest and grow:)
 
For me it is my life. I grew up a skinny weak kid and i hated it. the first time i started lifting i knew it was something i was never goin to stop doing. it make me feel good about my self and gives me confidence over other people. i love the feeling i get when someone comes up to me and compliments me on how big i am and wishes he could get that size. but i think to my self how most people do not have the dedication it takes to do what we do and that is what you need to be is dedicated.
 
well, i do it because it makes me feel good about myself...i am only 21, so i still got a lot of time to improve. at 18..right outta high school, i started gettin into drugs and was doin that for about a year and a half or so...one day i went to the gym with some friends...i was always the small skinny one...i was doin incline dumbbell presses with 25lbs and almost dropped it on myself...my friends stood there and laughed at me....so i got my own membership and started workin out on my own..watchin what i eat...since then...theres been a big improvement..but nowhere close to what i wanna be...but my friends aren't laughin anymore...they are actually workin out with me...i gained 30lbs in 2 and a half years..and that was the hardest thing to do...but when you go out and you get compliments and you hear ur friends tellin you that gurls are checkin you out..its just more motivation for urself...and i'm still motivated...and since i've joined this board..its more motivation...everyone in here is helpful in every way...if i have a question about something..theres always someone to answer it for me...thats wut these boards are for...

I think my kick in the ass was seeing what I become after abuseing drugs and alcohole. I grew up skinny, therefor never had much respect from the other guys. They would tell stories of how they won this fight and that fight and wouldnt even concider me as tough enough to hold my own.
I do it for me, no more abuse. I look good and feel good thats all that matters to me.
 
for me i guess its the feeling of being small and weak not too mention having a bigger older brother. when i was younger my bro would always call me fatboy since i really didnt really do anything and say that i should lift weights. well after about 6 months of name calling and getting into arguements and near fist-fights i decided to start lifting under his advice. Now a couple years later he knows better not too mess with me because i am bigger and do take martial arts so hes not sure what the hell he is in for if he decides to start some shit with me.

theres that and i hate to feel small and weak cant stand the feeling and as far as i'm concerned i wont ever allow myself to feel that way again peroid
